An Extraordinary Summer Rock Band Experience for All Instruments and Voice Ages 5 and up.
This summer give your child the chance to find out what it is like to be a rock star.
Since the year 2000, future rock stars have had the opportunity to experience five days of music at the Mike Risko Music Rock Camps. These one week intensive summer camps give students the opportunity to learn from professional musicians just what it's like to be a member of a real rock band. Our camps are performance oriented with the final product being an amazing rock concert for friends and families to enjoy.
Students are placed in bands with others at a comparable level, and each band is assigned a manager (one of our instructors) to guide them through the songwriting and rehearsal process. Bands work on writing their own material, lyrics and music. They also learn to play covers of their choice. In addition to performing skills, band members are taught how to promote their band, how to rock out on stage and how to operate sound equipment. Students are also given group lessons focusing on the skills they need to play with their band. They watch their peers perform and top off their musical adventure by playing a show at a local venue or outside in our outdoor education space. Shows are also now live streamed for friends and family to enjoy from all over.
Rockers come from all over to be a part of this exciting program. Some sign up on their own while others join us with their band for some extra coaching and the chance to be a part of the concert at the end. Many of the bands stay together after the summer has ended while others sign up as a band to be a part of one of our many workshops that we hold during the school year. This program is truly an incredible experience for kids as they learn about teamwork, develop musical skills and gain confidence, all through music.
For the student that loves musical theater, we offer a musical theater track too. Instead of being in a band, musical theater students are placed in a group that works together on creating a fun cabaret performance starring all their favorite songs from popular musicals. The musical theater and the rock band camp participants take classes together like art, music lessons and other master classes and perform in the same show at the end of the week.
If you are interested in information on this unique summer program contact us anytime. All levels are welcome to particpate. Students are grouped by age range. In addition, all instruments are welcome including brass, woodwinds, and strings. We also welcome kids that are interested in stage crew to manage props, sets and lighting. They will assist with putting together the peformance we present at the end of the week for the rockers and the musical theater group.

An Extraordinary Summer Musical Theater Experience for Theater Enthusiasts Ages 5 and up.
Since the summer of 2000, Mike Risko Music has been offering summer music workshops for kids who want to be rockers. In the past few years we expanded this program to also include musical theatre. During our one-week intensive summer workshops, students have the opportunity to star in a musical cabaret production with guidance from professional voice and acting coaches in a fun, summer environment. Using songs and short skits from popular musicals, everyone will get a lead and the chance to shine.
Each day students will work on skills that make them stronger singers and actors. They will help create a show based on characters and songs from shows that they choose. They will participate in everything from concept to completion as they prepare their finished product to be performed on the last day of the summer workshop. They will learn to project themselves on stage while building confidence through acting and singing. Students are also given the opportunity to chose electives throughout the day like a voice or theatre class. They will participate in working sets and costumes during the art portion of the day. They will get to know other kids at the workshop who are enrolled in the Rock Band Camp and each day will have the opportunity to perform for other kids in the camp during showcase time.
